About the game
Flux is a turn based, casual online multiplayer game. Players spend a set number of turns per day exploring the galaxy and trading resources between star systems as they build their own galactic trade network. Players may colonize systems, establish trade guilds with other players, battle competing players and fight for the Allied Republic of Critters, The Armada or the Pirates.
Game length is typically three to four months, with actual game time around 10-20 minutes per day. The winning player for each ethos will receive a prize, and all top players earn bragging rights and stat boosts to their critter profile.
Concept Art
Take a look at some concept designs for the upcoming game.
Flux Integration
Flux is BattleCritters' flagship game. It offers ways to build, customize, and level up your character, ship and clan. The game takes as little or as much devotion as you want to put into it. With our ever changing game cycles, you can start a new game at anytime and always have a chance to rank. New players will never feel as if they don't stand a chance to become a top ranking player on the BattleCritters leaderboard. But the most unique thing about Flux is that all our BattleCritters standalone games can be launched and played via Flux.
Frey
Starship Battles in Flux are primarily based on ship enhancements, abilities, and stats. Don't let that stop you though, if you want to test your game skills you can invite your opponent to battle you in a game of Frey. If you enter a sector with other players that are currently online, you can invite them to a game, where the result of the ensuing battle will affect your Flux and Frey status. This will allow for a more rich and interactive game play experience that allows you to play as long or as little as you would like, while allowing skilled pilots to supplement their trading and star navigation skills.
Contingency
In Flux you'll have the opportunity to colonize planets, and even attack other planets once your starship becomes powerful enough. With the Flux Integration you can travel to galactic hotspots where worlds are constantly at war. Join short or epic battles where your strategic skills are put to the test, allowing you to gain higher ranking, get unique ship enhancements, and just have fun playing Contingency. Battle results effect both your contingency and Flux rankings.
Development
Timeline
Flux is currently sceduled for development. Development will begin after frey enters beta testing. We encourage you to create an account, or play a game of Contingency in the meantime.

Commentary
Even though the freighter above is pretty awesome (even if I say so myself) there will be many more starships to choose from. I think what is going to be real blast are resources we all know and love like Spice, Trilithium crystals, and Human Lifeforce that you can trade when docked at space stations like Deep Space 8.
Programmer Commentary
Flux, initially our most complex game, is based on an old BBS game called TradeWars I used to play as a kid, and if you know what a BBS is, then you know how long ago that was. It's still in existence, but they just can't seem to update the interface into something playable. The original game just stole all their ideas from Star Trek, but it made the game seem more inviting since you already knew the universe. I hope we can improve on the universe, interface and gameplay but keep the excitement of that game.
